Meg Leslie is a Kitchener artist who likes to make things happen. And she is making Flirting with the Arts happen on Sunday, February 9.
Flirting with the Arts is a day-long series of intensive workshops designed to inspire people’s creativity through hands-on art activities. “It’s like speed-dating, but with the arts,” says Meg.
There are 12 different artist-led workshops from local and Orillia-based creators, which cover diverse, creative topics such as digital storytelling, mixed-media collage, acrylic painting, slide guitar and metal work. Each 30-minute workshop will have five participants plus the instructor, all hosted at Kitchener’s Queen Street Commons Cafe.

Meg, who is a ceramic tile artist, said she knows a lot of creative people who are passionate about what they do, and she envisioned a way to get curious people in the same room to learn from each other. “Being able to play and explore is such a valuable activity, and I wanted to give others the chance to flirt with an art that could potentially become their passion,’ says Meg.
To create a dynamic program, she focused her attention on artists who not only were talented but could also clearly communicate artistic concepts to others. It didn’t take much persuasion for 12 artists to sign on and develop engaging sessions.
“I want people to leave this event feeling inspired and full, like they experienced something so sweet, they know they need to return to it again on their own,” she says.
